This is an exceptional situation in the agricultural world. A sheep from the agricultural high school of Thiérache gave life to five lambs this Sunday. An extremely rare event in which the breeding sector of the specialized establishment participated.
Everyone is now taking care of the two males and the three females. But only three of the lambs in the litter remain by their mother’s side. The sheep cannot suckle all of them.
“That one, when I got it, it was a bit fragile. We put it directly under the heat lamp to keep it warm. We made it drink immediately from the bottle to be sure to save it”, explains Quentin Pansin, employee of the agricultural school in the town of Fontaine-lès-Vervins in the Aisne.
Births are multiplying within the breeding of the Lycée de la Thiérache. In ten days, 120 lambs from about fifty ewes have pointed the tip of their muzzle. Three other little ones arrived at the sheepfold this week.
“What is quite exceptional is the speed with which the lambings have taken place for ten days. Often it is spread over a month, a month and a half but there, in ten days, we are already half the animals. who gave birth “, indicates Jean-Marc Lamotte, responsible for the operation of the agricultural school.
And these lambs are doing wonderfully. All that remains is to find each of them a little name.
