Educational bowls are bowls that provide daily activity for the cat while eating. As in nature, food is available, but requires the animal a few kicks in order to access it.
Pouring kibble into the bowl is often the first thing in the morning for cat owners. The hungry animal knows that it will find something to satisfy itself without getting too tired. However, the cat’s hunting instinct is highly developed. Felines that have access to the outdoors have the leisure to practice their favorite activity, hunting. So how do you keep a cat that doesn’t go out? How to allow him to express all his basic needs in a house?
Go hunting for croquettes with educational bowls
Cats need 7 to 8 small meals a day, a habit that they take from their ancestors and that it is necessary to respect for their well-being.
So that these many meals are taken in a fun way, there are educational bowls. The croquettes are scattered there and the presence of different openings makes access to food more complex. The animal must thus, play with its legs and its muzzle in order to obtain its pittance.
This new way of feeding has many advantages, because it allows the cat to:
- Eat less quickly
- Exercise (very important for overweight cats)
- Hunt for food
- Occupy his long days
These bowls therefore make it possible to give the animal an activity and stimulate it in its daily life.
A gradual implementation
Nothing more disturbing for cats, so routine, to have food always available and then suddenly, much less accessible.
The transition to this mode of feeding must be gradual at the risk of stressing the animal.
Initially, the croquettes must therefore be distributed between the usual bowl and the educational bowl. Then gradually increase the ration of the educational bowl until removing that of the normal bowl.
It is important to keep in mind that cats are intelligent beings and get bored very quickly. It is possible that after 2-3 weeks the feline has fully understood the workings of his new bowl. To avoid fatigue, it is therefore necessary to have several educational bowls and to alternate them regularly.
Thanks to this new feeding method, your cat’s days will be shorter and he will be able to practice a stimulating daily activity.
