In Mauléon, a private agricultural high school decided to try an unusual experience. Adopt a dog to allay the anxieties of the students. #IlsOntLaSolution
It is a strange pupil who slips through the corridors of the agricultural school of Val de l’Ouin. He has four legs and a super boil. Little is a 6 year old Labrador. That day, he will attend the cultural education course. It was the management of the establishment who had the idea of welcoming a dog to the school. The project was created with the help of the handi’chiens association. “We had the opportunity to recover a dog from a deceased disabled person. It was normally doomed to return to foster care,” says Corinne Baudry-Gellé, director of the school.
Full time at the facility, Little became the high school mascot. It is the joy of high school students. “It brings good humor. It calms us down, calms us down during class,” testifies Lola, in final baccalaureate pro personal services. On the teacher side, Little is also very popular. “It energizes the lessons and makes them more enjoyable. The teacher / student relationship is much easier to set up,” explains Bérangère Girard, professor of socio-cultural education.
His presence also helps develop skills that are essential for the future jobs of these high school students. “For our students who are in the service to the person, the relation to the other is essential and it is a social skill that it is absolutely necessary to develop to the maximum,” adds Bérangère Girard. In France, only two high schools have embarked on this adventure.
