In Mexico, a site tries to preserve thousands of butterflies which find refuge in a vast reserve. Their protectors are sometimes the target of supporters of deforestation.
It is a magnificent cloud. The wings of monarch butterflies are sun-setting in color, edged with black veins and speckled with white. It is in the state of Michoacán (Mexico) perched at an altitude of 3,300 meters, that tourists walk in a pine forest. At the end of the path, the butterflies are there. They drink and fly away as soon as the sun appears.
In this part of Mexico, butterflies hibernate and spend the winter in this dense forest that protects them from the cold. These are unusual images of this migrant from Canada. Its journey is 4000 kilometers long, it takes four generations of butterflies to arrive in Mexico. The fourth and last generation lives between eight and nine months. In this sanctuary, the trees, habitats of monarch butterflies, are protected by guards.
