A surprise that nobody expected …
In March 2016, Mike Shirley-Donnelly and his wife Delicaye decided to do some serious cleaning in their garden, which was in great need of it, as the brush has become everywhere. But the bad weather gets involved and finally the spring cleaning is postponed to another date.
An egg hunt like no other
The Easter weekend arrives and its traditional egg hunt. Mike Shirley-Donnelly, his wife Delicaye and the children are all in the garden looking for chocolates when one of them has a huge surprise ! A surprise that no one will ever forget.
While looking for eggs, one of the children came across a litter of kittens! The family then makes the decision not to let the kittens outside because there are many wild animals lurking in the area, including coyotes. The kittens would then be in danger of death. Not knowing if the mother of the kittens would come back, the family installs a cardboard box with a thick towel in the garden to make a cozy nest for the five little furballs that snuggle up in it right away.
A family with a big heart
Unfortunately, the Shirley-Donnellys are allergic to cats and decide to contact a veterinarian friend for help. Over the phone, the friend in question explains to them that kittens do not cause any allergic reaction until they are weaned. The whole family then decides to take care of it and contacts an association to find out exactly how to proceed.
This Easter Sunday, the life of the Shirley-Donnelly family changed forever.
As the kittens slowly grow up, the Shirley-Donnelly family are surprised to see more kittens arrive. First one, then two, then others. They then set up traps to try to capture the mothers as well and come to the aid of all the kittens who need it.
Two years later, the Shirley-Donnellys helped 24 kittens and found them a loving family to each, and this despite their allergy. Hopefully their story can inspire other vocations because helping stray animals is essential to their survival and gives them a second chance in life.
